Major Findings
- The rate of adolescent pregnancy declined 40% between 1995 and 2004.
- 83% of Collin County 2 year olds were fully immunized in 2006, well above the Texas immunization rate of 79.5%.
- The rates of prematurity and infant mortality are increasing.
- More than 50,000 Collin County children have limited access to healthcare as a result of being uninsured or being enrolled in Children's Medicaid or CHIP.
- There is a severe lack of behavioral health treatment for children and youth in Collin County.
Work Group Priorities 2010
- Increase awareness of the Texas Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Children's Medicaid in Collin County
- Increase the awareness of the importance of a medical home
Connecting to Children's Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
For $50 or less your child can qualify for CHIP or Children's Medicaid. Benefits include: regular doctor's visits, immunizations, prescription drugs, and emergency care. Many member organizations, such as Children's Medical Center, offer families application assistance with this program.
